You're probably sitting there sipping on your cup of coffee looking at the latest offerings from Auto Comparison and wondering why I didn't pitch the Honda Accord up against their arch rival, Toyota Camry. I feel Hyundai has a lot more to offer to the consumer than either Honda or Toyota, and it is all about warranty. I will get to that later, let's look at these two cars and see which fits your lifestyle. Remember these are not the only cars in this article. So pour another cup, sit back and enjoy!

2013 Honda Accord Coupe
Honda has been building cars since the 70's. I was a Honda Service Manager in the 70's and I watch the progression from a little coupe with a 360 motorcycle engine in it to a time when people were getting on a waiting list for an Accord without driving it! The 2014 Honda Accord Coupe has come a long way from their roots of motorcycle powered cars. This car has all the latest features you would want in a car. You start out with four models; I have included the base price as well: LX-S $23,625, EX $25,300, EX-L $28,345, EX-L V6 $30,625. There are two engines available for the Honda Accord, in the LX-S, EX, and EX-L you get an all-aluminum-alloy engine that produces 185 horsepower and 181 foot pound of torque. The EX-L V6 your engine is also aluminum-alloy producing 278 horsepower and 252 foot pound of torque. You get a choice of three transmissions; in the LX-S, EX and in the EX-L V6 you get a standard six-speed manual transmission, in the LX-S, EX, and the EX-L you get a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with Sport Mode and on the LX-S and the EX you can opt for paddle shifters, the EX-L comes standard with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. If CVT transmissions are not your cup of tea you can opt for a six-speed automatic transmission, it comes in the EX-L V6. Now the important part of the review is gas mileage! With the six speed manual and four cylinder engine, city: 24, freeway 34 and combined freeway and city 28 miles per gallon. On the V6 with a manual transmission you can expect to get city: 18, freeway: 28 and combined 22 miles per gallon. This is the part where the big difference comes out on these cars:

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Now let's look at the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Just got off the phone with Hyundai, at this point in time they have no information on the 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe but they assured me the 2013 will not be that much different from 2013 to 2014.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe offers three models, the Base. R-Spec and the Premium. You have two engines to choose from a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged intercooled inline 4-cylinder developing 274 horsepower on Premium fuel and 260 horsepower on regular (14 horsepower difference?) You get a choice of two transmissions a six-speed manual or an 8-speed electronically controlled transmission. Fuel mileage from the manual transmission equipped Genesis is 21-city, 30-freeway, 24-combined miles per gallon, with the 8-speed automatic you will expect to get 17-city, 27-freeway, 21-combined miles per gallon. If you decide to choose either the R-Spec or the Premium the 3.8-liter will produce 348 horsepower and 344 foot pound of torque. Pricing for the 4 cylinder starts out at $24,250 and the R-Spec and Premium start out at $28,750.

Now for the deal breaker as far as I am concerned, the Honda is a great car but so is the Hyundai and the big difference is the warranty. Hyundai is 5 year 60,000 bumper to bumper warranty and the powertrain warranty is 10 year 100,000 miles! Buy the factory extended warranty and your bumper to bumper coverage extends out to 10 years 100,000 miles!

So which one would I put in my garage? The Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec manual transmission! See you down the road!
